Objectives

The doubleA Foundation manages, develops and produces musical performances by the composer and director Michel van der Aa, including music theatre, opera, concerts, audiovisual exhibitions, digital art, multimedia and film.

doubleA has three primary objectives:

  • Developing innovative music theatre in the form of international co-productions which stretch the art form’s boundaries.
  • doubleA Lab; organised in a laboratory-like structure, new content and technology is developed and tested in collaboration with new artistic and technical partners. We focus particularly on collaboration with young, up-and-coming artists.
  • Managing Michel van der Aa’s existing repertoire and producing international tours.

We are a nonprofit organisation founded in 2017. doubleA collaborates with big co-producers, opera houses and festivals which enable productions. The foundation increasingly operates as the main producer. This enables the foundation to maintain ownership of the productions and creates more opportunities to perform the works internationally, which contributes to projects’ reach and cost-efficiency.

The most important objective is for the organisation to take a big step in developing contemporary performing arts over the next three years. doubleA is already proving itself an excellent cultural entrepreneur with important international partners.
With organisational scaling-up and targeted R&D, doubleA is developing into an exemplary production centre in which creativity, production, sales and public reach form a single coherent entity.

doubleA foundation is supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten.
